What to Expect

Taking the first step, at your own pace.

Taking the first step towards counselling can feel daunting, particularly if you've never experienced counselling before. This page explains a little about what you can expect, so you can get a sense of how I work and decide whether SCH Counselling feels right for you.

What Happens During Sessions?

Sessions are a safe and confidential space where you can talk openly about whatever feels important to you. We’ll work together to explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences, at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

There’s no expectation that you need to have everything figured out, or know exactly what you want to talk about. I’ll listen without judgement, offer gentle support and, where appropriate, introduce different ways of understanding or working with what you’re experiencing.

Our sessions are guided by what feels most helpful and relevant to you.

Your First Session:

Your first session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another and begin to explore what has brought you to counselling. We’ll talk about what you would like support with and what you hope to gain from counselling, while also taking some time to discuss how we might work together.

You don't need to prepare anything beforehand or know exactly what you want to say. You can take things at your own pace, and there is no expectation that you share anything before you feel ready.

The first session is also a chance for you to get a sense of whether you feel comfortable working with me. Building a trusting therapeutic relationship is important, and we'll work together to create a space where you feel heard, respected and supported.

You don't have to make any decisions about ongoing counselling straight away. The first session can simply be a chance to meet, talk and see whether working together feels right for you.

The Practicalities

  • Sessions last for 60 minutes.
  • The frequency depends on you and what you feel you need - we'd discuss this during sessions.
  • Sessions can be held online (Zoom) or in-person (Northamptonshire, UK).
  • Both short-term and longer-term therapy support is available.

The frequency and format of the sessions can be flexible and we would continue to review this throughout.

Fees

£50 per session.

Concessionary rates available upon request - please contact me to discuss.
